So, You Need a CPAP Machine

Once you find out you need a CPAP machine, you need to plan on how you are going to take care of it.

The proper care and use of the machine and accompanying equipment (hose and mask) will help to ensure it is running at an optimum level and will prolong the life of your CPAP machine as well.

Each piece of the equipment must be cleaned separately and there are CPAP cleaning kits available to purchase, that can help make the process quick and easy.

Or, if you are looking for a more economical way to keep your equipment cleaned, you can put together an at-home CPAP cleaning kit with products you can find around your house.

You Will Need:

  • Soft Washcloth
  • Mild Dishsoap/Baby Shampoo
  • Small Sink/Tub/Basin
  • Towel
  • Any CPAP Cleaning Wipes

Do's:

  • DO choose perfume-free, dye-free and lotion-free soaps or cleansers for all your CPAP equipment

  • DO hang your CPAP hose to dry to eliminate any moisture-loving bacteria

  • DO change any required disposable filters regularly

  • DO use very warm or hot water, as per your manufacturers instructions

Do Not's:

  • DO NOT use any cleaners like bleach on your CPAP equipment
  • DO NOT use any alcohol based items in your CPAP cleaning kit. It can dry out your equipment and cause it to dry out and degrade

DON'T FORGET!!

Always follow the suggestions from the manufacturer

Create a cleaning schedule for your CPAP equipment

Make sure to keep the schedule in an easy to find location (with your cleaning kit is a good idea) so you can keep track of cleaning your equipment
