Nursing Home or Cruise Ship?

The Numbers
I have received this in my email numerous times and just smiled and dismissed it. I found it here to start this hub. I am not sure the author, but whomever it was, was very wise!!
It starts out with a husband and wife on a cruise, and they became curious about one of the travellers. When they posed the question to the older lady, about why she had been on the cruise for the last 4 trips, she responded with "It's cheaper than a nursing home".
The average cost for a nursing home is $200 per day. Reservations on a cruise with a long term discount and senior discount would cost approximately $135 per day.
It would leave $65 a day for: Tips at $10 per day, as many as 10 meals a day or room service (which means I can have breakfast in bed every day of the week). As many as three swimming pools, a workout room, free washers and dryers, and shows every night. Free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo. Customer treatment, not patient treatment,
You get to meet new people every 7 or 14 days. They will fix anything and apologize for your inconvenience. Clean sheets and towels every day, and you don't even have to ask for them. If you fall in the nursing home and break a hip you are on Medicare; if you fall and break a hip on the Princess ship they will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.
And don't forget, when you die, they just dump you over the side at no charge.

Reality Hits!!
I have been doing a school placement in a nursing home. We are in week 6. What an experience it has been. My feet hurt, my emotions are on a roller coaster ride and I am learning how to provide good care in a short amount of time.
Being in this field has gotten me thinking about my future. Where will I end up? I have 5 kids, will any of them choose to care for me? Will I want them to care for me? Will they "dump" me in a home? Will they be an active advocate for me in my old age? Hard questions, but reality none the less.
I put the little story above in for a reason. I really am thinking that the whole cruise ship idea would be the best alternative!! My kids wouldn't end up burdened with my care, and I would be able to travel the world at leisure!!
It is kind of eye opening...because the story is pretty much true. The cost of a nursing home is quite a bit, the cruise really may end up being the best bang for the buck!! Free laundry, meals whenever, new faces all the time and the ever changing scenery!!
Having so many services at hand and people ready to help you when you need it is a great idea! As mentioned above, even if you fall and hurt yourself, they are eager to please you on the cruise ship, so much so, that you may be able to get away with very little travel medical insurance!
So, when I am old and grey, and I am frail and weak, and I become even more forgetful then I am now..let me dance the night away on a cruise...it will be cheaper and more enjoyable then the nursing home!!
